Bamboo as a building material
Bamboo is quickly becoming a viable option for sustainable construction in Malaysia. SEAD in Perak is already able to ship out prefabricated bamboo houses that assemble in 3 days and come with a 10-year warranty for the termite resistant structural bamboo. Malaysia is adopting an international standard for bamboo construction. Apart from being a low-carbon construction material, bamboo is also being used to rehabilitate degraded land and produce biochar that stores carbon in the soil.
