BSAS Block 2 combines its original passive environmental features with carefully selected modern interventions. Its OTTV of 26 W/m² and roof U-value of 0.49 W/m²K help reduce heat gain, while shaded perimeter walkways, thick masonry walls, high ceilings, and natural ventilation support passive thermal performance. Daylighting was improved through a simple, low-impact intervention: removing dark window tints and introducing light-coloured, reflective finishes to allow more daylight to reach interior spaces without significantly altering the historic fabric. The project retains and reuses approximately 59% of the existing building materials, reducing embodied carbon, while water-efficient fittings achieve a 66% reduction in water consumption. Combined with low-VOC materials, ozone-friendly refrigerants, recycling strategies, and LED façade lighting, Block 2 demonstrates how conservation, adaptive reuse, and modern sustainability performance can coexist within a historic building.
