A hearty congratulations to internationally renowned Malaysian architect, Dato’ Dr. Ar. Ken Yeang and T. R. Hamzah & Yeang for Winning the 2024 AIA International Design Award - Firm Award. Ken Yeang pioneered the bioclimatic skyscraper concept, bringing greenery into the sky, connecting the greenery to the ground through a series of interlinked facade-plantings. Projects dating back to the early1990s (Mesiniaga tower) and in the Solaris building (2008) with a 1.5 km long facade-greenery spiral.
At IEN, we have had the thrill of collaborating with Ken Yeang on a refurbishment project that included introducing a number of thermal flues to function as solar and wind induced natural-ventilation system (link to project).
IEN also had the pleasure of being invited by BFM 89.9 radio for a Talking Heads episode, where the green architect (Ken Yeang) and the green building engineer (Gregers Reimann) had a dialog on their perspectives and experiences in the green building space. Listen to the episode here (online podcast).
In fact, we are currently exploring several project collaborations with Ken Yeang and look forward to exploring new chapters of pioneering green building design work.
