Innovative Heat Rejection Systems

IEN was honoured to be invited to give the above talk at yesterday's conference "Innovative Cooling Solutions for High-Performance, Energy-Efficient and Sustainable Data Centres". Glad to receive lots of interest and positive feedback on the presentation, which can be viewed / downloaded here:
Our presentation mostly concerned heat rejection to the tropical sky using different roof design solutions. The main case study is our GreenTech Malaysia building, which has a "river roof" design for heat ejection at night only. The presentation also touches on highly reflective roof systems that can reject heat to the sky at night as well as during the day. And with the expected increasing cooling temperature for data centres, a heat rejection temperature of 45°C was mentioned, the annual frequency for which free-cooling (cooling with economiser) is possible will be going up including for the tropics. Interesting!
The conference was organised by the Urban Engineering Development Special Interest Group (UEDSIG) under the Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM), and in collaboration with SPX Cooling Technologies Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. featuring speakers from the US-basd Marley cooling tower company. The conference took place on 20 October 2026 at Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur Hotel.
