IEN was delighted to be invited to conduct a 1-hour workshop on energy efficient building retrofits including the significant reductions in embodied carbon emissions from building materials for retrofits versus new construction. The attractive return of investment (ROI) was also presented. The workshop centred around 3 of IEN's completed building case studies.

IEN was honoured to be invited to give a guest lecture at Universiti Malaya about the importance of Healthy Work Spaces. We shared the convincing economic case for designing / retrofitting buildings to have a conducive and stimulating indoor environments that allow people to thrive. We used two of our projects, the Paramit factory and the Unilever Malaysia office, as case studies. And we used the Birdie air quality sensor for the first time - and the canary bird died! Building with living trees is an fascinating concept, as it does not require cutting down any trees or using any resources. The biophilic element of ever changing trees is also captivating. Interestingly, building with living trees is already practised around the World. We felt so inspired by Felix Klee's "Hyperboloid Banyan" presentation that we undertook an internal brainstorming later the same day to explore ways use Banyan trees in building projects.
