IEN was honoured to be invited as the only external speaker for the 2-day in-depth workshop of the newly launched LEED v5 rating systems. Charles (IEN) mostly spoke on updates to the Energy and Atmosphere, and Indoor Environmental Quality sections of the new LEED v5 BD+C and O&M rating tools.

Our key take-aways from LEED v5 are:
Stronger Focus on Real World Performance The new version has stronger emphasis on the performances compared to the previous versions, ensuring the sustainable LEED designs are indeed performing sustainably in the operational phase.
Decarbonization, Quality of View, and Ecological Conservation The LEED v5 rating tools further categorize the credits and prerequisite into 3 central areas of impacts, namely Decarbonization, Quality of View, and Ecological Conservation and Restoration. Hereby, the impact of each each LEED credits and/or prerequisite becomes more clear.
Taking LEED Platinum to a New Level The LEED v5 tool has introduced a new requirement for the most ambitious projects targeting LEED Platinum rating. New compulsory credits and minimum threshold are to be met solely for LEED Platinum projects to ensure these projects are truly high performing.
We want to thank the USGBC and GBCI, particularly Rohith Ravula, Nagesh Gupta and Sourabh Gupta, for organising this 2-day event that attracted LEED certification practitioners from across Malaysia. It provided a highly valuable platform to exchange insights, share experiences, and foster new professional connections. The event took place on 28-29 Oct 2025 at Le Meridien, KL Sentral, Malaysia.
